Hey y'all,
Homework assignments for this week as follows:
(1) Bring in a sentence fragment... hopefully one that is, in some way, cool.
(2) Transcribe a few lines of actual dialogue from an everyday conversation. The idea is to get a sense of why *real* dialogue isn't really what you want to shoot for in dialogue writing. Note: do NOT spy on anyone. ;-)
(3) Bring in an emblematic phrase for a character. By that I mean, a single line that sums up the character perfectly. Now I don't want to know the identity of the character... ideally, we should be able to guess.
(4) A one page (I'll settle for 3/4) speech from a fictitious character of your creation. The speech should be written in the first person (email me if you don't know what that is) and can be about any topic... the point here is to start honing the character's voice. I'll post an example when I get my computer back from the shop.
Finally, several of you fine gentlemen have asked me to look over various writing projects that you've created outside of class. Of course, I am delighted to do so. However, I'm going to have to ask you to e-mail me these submissions otherwise they tend to get mixed up with all of the other papers from class. That delays getting them back to you and that ain't good.
Cheers!
